Bambu Lab printers have taken the 3D printing world by storm. The X1 Carbon, P1S, P1P, and A1 Mini are fast, reliable, and produce exceptional prints — but only when paired with quality filament.
Here's what you need to know about choosing and dialling in filament for your Bambu Lab printer.
Why Filament Quality Matters More on Bambu Lab
Bambu Lab printers are speed-optimised. They print fast — sometimes very fast — which means diameter inconsistencies, moisture absorption, and poor winding cause far more problems than on slower machines. A spool that "works fine" on a slower printer can cause clogs, layer inconsistency, or failed prints on a Bambu Lab at high speed.
Consistent diameter (±0.03mm or better), proper vacuum sealing, and reliable winding are non-negotiable.
Best Settings for PLA+ on Bambu Lab
Bambu Lab's own slicer (Bambu Studio) has preset profiles for generic PLA and PLA+. For Filentra PLA+, these settings work great:
- Nozzle temp: 220–225°C
- Bed temp: 55–65°C (textured PEI plate recommended)
- Speed: Default Bambu profiles work well — no need to slow down
- Cooling: Full cooling on
The X1 Carbon and P1S with AMS handle PLA+ perfectly. On the A1 Mini, stick to standard speed presets for best results.
Best Settings for PETG on Bambu Lab
PETG needs a bit more care on Bambu Lab printers due to stringing at high speed:
- Nozzle temp: 240–250°C
- Bed temp: 70–80°C (smooth PEI plate works better than textured for PETG)
- Speed: Reduce to 80% of default for best quality
- Cooling: Reduce fan speed to 30–50%
- Retraction: Slightly higher retraction helps reduce stringing
PETG also sticks very aggressively to smooth PEI — use a thin layer of glue stick as a release agent to protect your plate.
AMS Compatibility
Both Filentra PLA+ and PETG are fully compatible with the Bambu Lab AMS (Automatic Material System). Load them like any standard 1.75mm filament — no modifications needed.
PETG can sometimes cause AMS feeding issues at very high speeds. If you experience this, reduce print speed slightly or use the external spool holder for PETG.
